Rosewood: A Design Journey from Drab to Fab

A newly renovated living room with lush hardwood floors, bright white walls, black trim, a decorative pendant light, and ornate black ceiling tiles

When I first walked into this 100-year-old Richmond house, I saw past the gross mint green carpet, the horrible striped wallboard, the dated decor, and the decades of wear — I knew it had good bones and so much potential.

Fast forward, and so far, I’ve:

✔️ Pulled up layers of carpet to uncover & restore the original 100+ year-old hardwoods
✔️ Painted (so.many. walls.) to give each room a new vibe
✔️ Installed wainscoting + did a two-tone paint job in the half bath (still one of my favorite DIYs!)
✔️ Cleaned up original details like the fireplace, light fixtures, doorknobs — and YES, that incredible original icebox in the kitchen
✔️ Added ornate ceiling tiles in the living room for a bit of drama
✔️ Upgraded the HVAC + added a brand new laundry room in the basement with smart appliances

And we’re not done yet! Stay tuned to see more makeover magic as we modernize and beautify this house, pulling it out of the 60s and into 2025.
